Impeachment by Chloe McDermott

A successful impeachment would result in Trump being unable to run for President again. Something that would help us all sleep at night.

The House Democrats are moving towards a second impeachment of Donald Trump for “incitement of insurrection” when Trump supporters violently stormed the Capitol and forcefully stopped the confirmation of Joe Biden as the next president of the United states of America.  In the events last Wednesday four people died.

With 200 Democratic Co – Sponsors, this article is the first step to making Trump the first president in history to be impeached twice. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said that he expected the vote to impeach Trump to occur on Wednesday and the articles to be sent to the senate without delay

The measure states that Trump has “demonstrated that he will remain a threat to national security, democracy and the Constitution if allowed to remain in office and acted in a manner grossly incompatible with self – governance and the rule of law.”

It also cited Trumps call with Georgia Republican Secretary of state where he urged him to “find” enough votes for Trump to win the state.

The vote to impeach will occur immediately if Vice President, Mike Pence and the Cabinet don does not invoke the 25th Amendment and remove Trump from Power. It is expected that the House is to return at 9 a.m. Tuesday to debate and pass the 25th Amendment bill via a roll call vote.

On the move towards impeachment speaker of the house Nancy Pelosi said: “As our next step, we will move forward with brining impeachment legislation to the Floor. The President’s threat to America is urgent and so too will be our action.”

So far, no Republicans have signed on to the legislation that calls on Pence to invoke the 25th Amendment which is seen as a possible indication of how a vote on impeachment would look.

However, ABC News have reported that their sources that some Republicans like Adam Kizinger may indeed vote to impeach Trump. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has said he won’t bring back the Senate from recess before 19th of January which could push the trial into the beginning of the Biden administration.

Congressman David Cicilline, is in favour of sending impeachment articles to the Senate right away. He said: “I expect that we’ll have Republican support. I think it’s urgent that the president be removed immediately”

Though the Democrats are eager for a second impeachment a trial as soon as possible it is still only a few Republicans show any inclination of siding with the Democrats this time. Scepticism will remain quite high for some that enough Republicans will vote against Trump the second time round.

Yet it will be important to remain hopeful as the potential prize on the line here would mean that a successful impeachment would result in Trump being unable to run for President again. Something that would help us all sleep at night.
