Email to Student Discipline @ University of Stirling re: The Stirling 13

Victimisation of the Stirling 13

Firstly we would like to extend our support for the striking Lecturers, members of UCU. It is a legitimate and righteous struggle for pay, contract, pensions and conditions.

Students also wanted to give their support, their solidarity to their own striking lecturers. The students solidarity actions were also to support the ideals of fighting for worker’s rights. The actions you have taken attacks fundamental democratic rights to protest.

As well as supporting Lecturers fighting for fair and decent pay and conditions they were also protesting for improvements in their own conditions at the University of Stirling. i.e. Improvements to Mental Health Services and affordability in accommodation.

We support the Stirling 13 and show our solidarity with them. We vehemently decry your suspension of these students and all the personal consequences that means for them. The cessation of their studies and the future implications of non or late completion of a course/qualification, be that financial, career or achievement of life goals are undeniably serious.

We demand that you re-instate the Stirling 13 forthwith.
