We know our history.
The Irish were blamed for problems they didn’t cause. They fled “famine”, occupation, persecution & poverty, only to face signs reading: “No Blacks. No Dogs. No Irish.”
Don’t repeat that.
The ruling class always need a scapegoat.
Yesterday it was the Irish, Catholics, Mods, Pakistanis, single mothers, “benefit scroungers” & gay people.
Today it’s migrants, trans people & people of colour.
Tomorrow it’ll be someone else.
Migrants aren’t why rents soar, wages stagnate or public services struggle.
The “good old days” weren’t better because there were fewer migrants. They were better because communities, unions & solidarity were stronger.
Thatcher & her ilk weakened unions, dismantled collective institutions & destroyed spaces where ordinary people could organise. Since then we’ve been fed division, culture wars & individualism.
Because division suits them.
A divided working class fights for scraps. A united one asks questions of those at the top.
Look at Belfast & Glasgow 50 years ago. Violence isn’t new. If you only care when the perpetrator is Black or a migrant, that’s not concern for public safety – it’s racism.
& fuck the guy who did it. Condemn the crime. But don’t pretend violence was imported. We have our own history of violence, sectarianism & division.
For years, politicians & media have encouraged us to fear our neighbours instead of asking why housing, wages & public services are failing. They want us fighting sideways, not looking up.
Their greatest victory was convincing working-class people the enemy lives next door, not at the top.
Solidarity with our class – esp people of colour facing intimidation & violence right now.
You are our neighbours. You are our communities. You are loved & you belong here just as much as anyone else.
Shame on anyone helping divide our class. You’re doing the dirty work of the rich while they profit from our division.
People like Tommy & Farage don’t care about us.
Remember: it was the ruling class & landlords who wrote “No Blacks, No Dogs, No Irish”.
Know who your real enemy is.
Reject racism. Reject sectarianism. Reject fascism.
Start fighting FOR our class AGAINST the rich.
