The Scottish Left coming together is both premature, and to this Indy-lefty, a failure. There have been rumblings of a new vehicle for the ex-Rise and the SWP rump over the past few months, with meetings, cries and whispers. The whispers have been so slight that they included only themselves, and a tiny group of others who have in the past been involved in their core groups and fronts. Opportunists and lefty “heroes,” who like to promote themselves with titles that go far beyond what they have accomplished nod sagely at these meetings, while others look on from their bigger platforms, again asking the question, “why would we decant our wider sphere of influence to something smaller, with a power structure designed to ensure these rump groups remain in charge?”
Neither the Corbyn vehicle, nor the Collective (which has been brought together by the diminutive SWP and a smattering of others) can do what they are promising in Scotland… because they are not promising Scotland anything other than in one case, social democracy without independence (the SNP Trump that group), or socialist in fighting that has already come to the fore as “the Collective” have been selective as to who the SWP feel are acceptable to their wish to control the levers.
The SSP, Greens and from what I hear, the SNP Socialists have not been invited. Nor are any of the spokespeople raving about the debacle surrounding the announcements.
At present, this Indy- lefty is still inclined to vote SNP/SSP/Green whenever available.
